Featuring Olympian Ashton Eaton as speaker
Benefiting Education Foundation for Bend-La Pine Schools
The Gala at The Riverhouse is Central Oregon's most elegant fundraising event, and we are proud to be celebrating our 22nd anniversary of giving back to the community.
The 22nd Annual Gala at The Riverhouse, produced by the Central Oregon Visitors Association and The Riverhouse, announced today that Olympic gold medalist and sports icon, Ashton Eaton will be the keynote speaker at The Gala at the Riverhouse on January 20, 2014.
A native of Bend, Ashton Eaton is a gold medal winner and world record holder in the decathlon. Ashton is a graduate of Mountain View High School and University of Oregon. Proceeds from The Gala will benefit the Education Foundation for Bend-La Pine Schools and establish a lasting endowment that will provide athletic fee scholarships for deserving students for years to come.
Ashton’s mother, Roz Eaton, says that her son’s involvement in high school sports was thanks to the work of the Education Foundation to ensure financial barriers do not prevent students from participating in athletics.
“As a single mother with limited finances, money (or lack of) was always a huge concern,” said Eaton. “Because of the Education Foundation’s scholarship program, Ashton was able to participate in wrestling, football and track and field. Through athletics, my son DID find his passion… and his life changed because of it.”
The Gala began as, and continues to be, the tourism industry’s way of giving back to our local community through a concerted effort to raise funds for local non-profits.
The selected beneficiary changes each year in order to focus on one worthy cause, yet has greatly impacted a wide range of organizations over time. Since it began, this annual event has raised over $2 million for a variety of local non-profit organizations.
Past beneficiaries include:
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon
- Grandma's House
- Sparrow Clubs USA
- KIDS Center
- Ronald McDonald House
- The Every Kid Fund
- Deschutes Children’s Foundation
- Tower Theater
- Cascade Youth & Family Center
- Habitat For Humanity
- Volunteers in Medicine
The Gala evening includes a delectable, elegant five course meal, one-of-a-kind silent auction, and special presentation from a featured guest speaker. With The Riverhouse graciously donating all the food and beverages, facility, labor, and production along with help from the Central Oregon Visitor's Association and the visitor industry, 100% of ticket sales directly benefit this years selected charity: Bend La-Pine Schools Education Foundation.
