Fly Fishing in Bend
Bend, Oregon fishing requires little more than desire and a little skill. Central Oregon’s lakes, rivers and streams abound with trout, salmon, steelhead and whitefish.

Deschutes River Guided Trips
Anglers come from around the world to fish on the Lower Deschutes River is a “blue-ribbon” trout and steelhead. The best fishing is from May through October, with spring through fall being good for trout and September through October being prime time for steelhead.
Day trips are offered throughout the season and include eight hours of guided fishing and a shore lunch. Equipment rentals are available, as well.
Crooked River Guided Trips
The Crooked River has a large population of trout and is the best river in Central Oregon for beginning to intermediate anglers, enjoy this river for its prolific insect hatches providing great dry-fly fishing. The half-day trip is the most-popular, most-affordable option, although there is more than enough river to spend a whole day on.
All Crooked River Guide trips include waders, boots, and fly-rod rentals. A fishing license is required.
Fly Fishing Classes
River Borne Outfitters offers beginning and intermediate fly-fishing lessons, as well. The most popular classes are the “Beginning Fly Fishing” and the “Beginning Fly Fishing, Crooked River” classes.
The “Beginning Fly Fishing” in Bend is a 2.5-hour lesson taught at a local park near Riverhouse on the Deschutes. Students will be given an equipment overview, learn fly-fishing parlance, basic knots and how to cast. They can practice fly casting in a controlled setting and will focus on learning the skills needed to perform on the river.
The “Beginning Fly Fishing, Crooked River” class is similar in that it starts at the park with the same instruction as the beginning class, but afterward, students and instructors head to the Crooked River for experience fly fishing a river. This class is six hours, but takes most of the day with the drive to and from the river.
All equipment is included in both classes, including waders and boot rentals for those headed to the river. Fishing Licenses are not provided and are needed for the Crooked River segment only.
