Winter is anything but a stay-inside season in Bend and Central Oregon.

With its mild temperatures, sunny skies and large number of activities – there’s sledding, tubing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, skating and skiing near Bend – winter is as much of an outdoor season as summer.

Bend, Oregon Snowboarding and Skiing at Mt. Bachelor

Known for its powdery snow and long ski season – usually November through May – Mt. Bachelor is the largest ski resort in Oregon, the second-largest single-mountain ski resort in the country and the sixth-largest of all ski resorts in the nation. The new cloud chaser lift will open 2016-17 season to open more terrain.

Cross-Country Skiing- Nordic Center at Mt. Bachelor

Boasting one of the longest Nordic seasons in the country, Mt. Bachelor offers miles of trails groomed for both skate skiing and classic skiing. Be sure to check the calendar of events for races and other events.

Dog Sledding

Operated out of Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort, the Oregon Trail of Dreams Dog Sled experience just a phone call away. This local company is owned and operated by Jerry Scdoris and his daughter, Rachael. Rachael has competed and finished the Iditarod race from Anchorage to Nome in 2006. Tour the winter wonderland from the comfort of dog sled while you enjoy taking in the sights of the forest, snow-covered trees and peaceful surroundings.

Snowblast Tubing

Not a skier? Head to Mt. Bachelor anyway and enjoy its Snowblast Tubing Park. Three sessions are offered daily and it typically sells out on the weekends, so reservations are suggested. They provide the tow up the hill and the tube to ride down in located in West village.

Sno - Parks for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, xc skiing, touring and sledding

Explore more than 1.6 million acres of Deschutes National Forest by snowshoe or by snowmobile. Mt. Bachelor offers free, 90-minute snowshoe interpretive tours by U.S. Forest Service Naturalists each winter. Sledding is offered at Wanoga Sno Park as well as Skyliner Sno Park (Sno Park Passes are required).Stop by the Welcome center

Wanderlust Tours also offers various snowshoe tours including moonlight hikes during the winter months.

Ice skating

The Pavilion, located on Colorado and Simpson offers a covered outdoor NHL size ice skating rink. Designated times for open recreational skate, speed skating and stick and puck. Check the website for current schedule.
